Roadway Container Logistics signs five year deal with Fargo Systems
for smartphone solution ‘TOPS…on the go’

Specialist software firm, Fargo Systems, has signed a five year contract with leading UK multimodal transport and container handling company, Roadways Container Logistics, to roll out its ‘TOPS…on the go’ android Smartphone system across Roadways entire fleet of over 300 vehicles.

The contract will see the first 50 interactive ‘TOPS…on the go’ systems being deployed by the end of 2012 with the remainder being rolled out across Roadways seven UK depots, with installation being completed first quarter 2013.

Roadway Container Logistics has used Fargo’s TOPS transport and container management software system since 2010 and the new ‘TOPS…on the go’ contract win further demonstrates the strong partnership enjoyed by the two industry leaders.

Fargo’s’ ‘TOPS…on the go’ system will provide Roadways and its customers with market leading visibility and real time information, tracking vehicle and container movements from port or railhead to the final delivery / collection location. Automatic alerts will be sent to transport planners if delays are encountered and scheduled arrival times are unable to be met, driving faster notification to Customers and improving overall service performance. Drivers will carry out daily vehicle checks, defect reporting and receive job information via their smart phone, negating the need for any paperwork.

In addition ‘TOPS…on the go’ will replace the traditional driver timesheet, recording drivers hours, expenses and fuel drawn on the device which in turn leads to more efficient fleet management.

Phil Wilkes, IT General Manager at Roadways Container Logistics, comments: ‘Deploying ‘TOPS…on the go’ across our network is a major investment for us, and is in line with our plans to fulfil our customers’ needs today and into the future. This announcement is the result of the good business relationship that has developed between our two companies, which is founded on a ‘partnership’ basis.’
