Logistics Link 2007

05/November/2007  Intermodal 2007 - Amsterdam RAI, December 4,5 and 6

Fargo Systems will be showcasing two new products at this year’s Intermodal event organised by Informa Maritime and Transport. As well as demonstrating their established TOPS (Transport Operations and Processing System) software, recently developed products CYMAN (Container Yard MANager) and TOPS “…on the Go” are to be introduced to the European Market.

As Business Development Manager Colin Potter explains, "CYMAN is the ideal scalable solution for managing a container yard with all its inbound/outbound movements. The design of CYMAN makes it suitable for all scenarios, from smaller companies operating a single container haulage yard, to larger organisations dealing with multiple yards and locations."

TOPS "…on the Go" is described by Director Kevin Terrill as "the perfect accompaniment to the TOPS container transport management system. It’s an enterprise-level mobile solution for vehicle planning and transport operations. Incorporating a host of customisable device and data network options, it also provides GPS tracking, electronic signature capture and real-time status updates."

Visit Stand A20 for the chance to see these new products in action!

Fargo Systems are also offering a unique 1 month FREE trial of their TOPS software to selected companies among the show’s visitors. Drop by for a demonstration and a chat about how TOPS could enhance your business – as well as the opportunity to try TOPS for free, subsequent license purchases will be offered at very preferential rates.

"Existing customers love our product and we’re very proud of what it can do," explains Kevin Terrill. "This is all about giving people a taste of TOPS. We’re confident that once people have tried it, they won’t want to manage their business any other way".

CYMAN logo

12/October/2007  New CYMAN (Container Yard Manager) product

New from Fargo Systems Limited, creator of TOPS, is CYMAN - the ideal scalable solution for managing Container Yard movements. The design of CYMAN makes it suitable in all scenarios, from smaller companies operating a single Container Haulage Yard with a single area, to larger organisations needing to manage multiple Container Yards with designated areas and individual Container locations in a single database.

CYMAN can be operated in Real-Time, giving the ability to complete both Ingate and Outgate functions and auto-generate the relevant Unit Interchange Note at the Gate window. It is equally suitable for post event recording of Inward & Outward movements by simple and straightforward completion of Ingate and Outgate forms as part of the intuitive graphical user interface.

CYMAN is EDI enabled for CODECO EDIFACT messages to be generated directly to the Customer allowing Real-Time gate movements to be received by Container Control systems eliminating paper reports and double keying of movements. Fargo Systems Limited has developed CODECO interfaces to many major Container Shipping Lines and has the knowledge & experience to implement other interfaces as the requirement arises.

The recording of movements allows Reporting on Stock Levels and Movement History as well as the calculation of Dwell Times in the Yard. All Reports in CYMAN can be previewed, printed or E-Mailed as required.

CYMAN offers the concept of creating ‘Yard Jobs’ to carry out work on a Container that is ingated to the Yard such as transhipping the cargo to a trailer. A Job Sheet can be produced to record work carried out and resources used.

Movements can be easily retrieved for view or update by means of the filterable Movements Explorer or by a Container Number Search.

10/July/2007  New offices in Rotterdam and Felixstowe

Fargo Systems has opened new offices in both Rotterdam and Felixstowe as part of their commitment to providing top-level quality of service close to customers old and new.

New members of staff have been added to the Felixstowe-based help desk, now housed in larger premises, and a Rotterdam base has been created in response to the surge in demand for the TOPS software product overseas. 2007 has seen customers such as Kuehne + Nagel successfully implementing the software in Austria, the Netherlands, Belgium and Sweden, with the roll-out set to continue through Spain, Germany, France and Poland.

Director Kevin Terrill explains "We believe in close relationships at the sharp end of business. With more and more companies entrusting their container management to TOPS we want to be pro-active about continuing to provide the best service they can get. Our new Felixstowe office with its extended helpdesk places us in the heart of our UK customer base, allowing us to react even more speedily to their needs. As for Rotterdam, it shows our European clientele that we are on their territory, readily available if they need us and living within their world of business every day. It also puts us in a position where we can respond rapidly to the many other companies out there that are asking to see TOPS. We see this as just the beginning of our next level of activity."

Logistics Link 2007

29/January/2007  Come and see us at Logistics Link 2007

Once again, Fargo Systems will be exhibiting at the Logistics Link exhibition this year which is being held on the 6th and 7th of February at Sandown Park in Surrey.

Fargo Systems have just released version 2.9 of their TOPS transport management system and will be showcasing it’s latest features at the Logistics Link South exhibition at Sandown Park on 6th-7th February.

Recognising the growing importance of rail services to both the container and the general distribution sectors, the latest version incorporates all of the functionality required to manage an inter-modal supply chain or distribution network.

"We are seeing an increasing number of our customers looking to rail as a reliable and cost effective alternative to long-haul road movements", comments Kevin Terrill, Development Director at Fargo Systems. "In order to support an inter-modal operation, the transport planner needs to easily be able to swap freight from one transport mode to another and indeed use a combination of modes with different suppliers or in-house resources for the same cargo."

He adds, "Several of our customers both here in the UK and on mainland Europe use the rail as the main method of ‘trunking’ cargo large distances before reverting to road for the ‘final mile’. Looking beyond this, and particularly in the container transport market, we expect inland water and short-sea feeder services to be further developed."

For the rail service customer, TOPS combines the concepts of either spot-rates or contracted or dedicated capacity resources, resulting in a complete understanding of rail utilisation patterns and efficiency savings. Costs and revenue are associated down to each individual consignment movement level allowing for comprehensive analysis. For the rail service operator, functionality is extended further to cater for individual wagon and container planning, including as expected, capacity planning from both a TEU and weight perspective. Train timetables are established in advance with the operator being able to see at a glance the available capacity remaining which in turn defines service levels and costs for subsequent workloads.

Further enhancements are expected early in 2007 to include service and cost comparisons and the automatic assignment of freight to rail based on these and other factors including weight and order priority.
